The Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Ampang (Special Children Society of
Ampang), with the help of volunteers, was initiated by parents to meet the educational and social needs
of their special children.
They highlighted the need for an educational programme tailored to the needs of children with learning disabilities. Our parents felt that more could
be done to improve their special children’s performance – not only academically – but also socially.
The Special Children Society of Ampang was borne due to a deep concern, on the part of our parents and teachers, over the lack of recreational and
rehabilitative activities available for children with special learning
needs.
Our continuous involvement in developing this centre makes it one of the most innovative, creative and advanced service in our area, aimed at
meeting the educational and social needs of children with learning disabilities.
Our programme provides equal opportunities for academic and functional living
skills to maximise each child's potential. These opportunities improve social networks and minimalise
the loneliness and social isolation of children with learning disabilities.
The strong presence of collaboration and teamwork between teachers and parents provides a supportive and enriched learning environment for our
children.
